African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementations were expected to reduce moderate poverty in Africa. Across regions, millions of people were forecast to be affected by this reduction. For instance, in Western Africa, over ** million people living in moderate poverty would be relieved in 2035 due to AfCFTA initiatives, rising from around *** million and **** million people in 2025 and 2030, respectively.
In May 2019, the AfCFTA agreement officially entered into force after ** African countries had ratified it. The agreement sought to boost inter-regional trade.
