The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistic ranking countries around the world by level of human development. It is expressed as a value between 0 and 1. The HDI is based on a large number of indicators, including, life expectancy at birth, literacy rate, education levels and gross national income (GNI) per capita.
Countries are grouped into four categories based on their HDI score.
Very high human development: 0.800 and above
High human development: 0.700-0.799
Medium human development: 0.550-0.699
