Taiwan is one of the Four Asian Tigers that has successfully developed into a high-income economy during the second half of the 20th century. Per capita GDP measured in purchasing power parity was one of the highest worldwide and the third highest in Asia Pacific in 2022. In addition, Taiwan was remarkably effective in containing the coronavirus while maintaining comparatively high GDP growth between 2020 and 2022.
