The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is expected to cause increases in import trade in Africa by 2035. For instance, compared to 2020, imports from the manufacturing sector are forecast to increase by *** percent under AfCFTA initiatives, while agriculture might experience a growth of ** percent. In May 2019, the AfCFTA agreement officially entered into force after 22 African countries had ratified it. The agreement sought to boost inter-regional trade.
