In 2023, almost ** percent of startup founders cited their reason for founding a new company as not having an alternative form of employment. In contrast, in 2021, only **** percent of respondents cited a lack of employment as the reason they started their company. 

According to the source, the respondents surveyed were considered founders if in the previous 12 months they were freelancing or self-employed, either full-time or part-time. This can be understood as founding a new business, as well as taking over or joining an already existing enterprise. The source notes it is irrelevant whether at the time of the survey respondents were self-employed or not.
