According to a survey conducted in October 2021, close to ** percent of respondents in Tokyo Prefecture did not know if their local government had implemented a system for same-sex partnerships. Japan does not allow same-sex marriages. Some local governments have instead introduced same-sex partnership systems that grant certain rights to registered partners.
