The majority of U.S. media professionals responding to a March 2023 survey believed that it would be in the best interest of the members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) to strike. Due to the failing to reach a payment agreement with film and TV studios such as Netflix and the Walt Disney Company, the WGA called a work stoppage starting May 2, 2023 - the first in 15 years.
