In 2022, **** percent of all Chinese children and adolescents were suffering from short-sightedness. The prevalence of myopia was strongly linked to the children's education level. While less than ** percent of six-year-olds had the condition, one in primary school pupils and **** in **** high school students were short-sighted. Although myopia is hard to prevent, spending more time outdoors can help stop it from getting worse. However, with a highly competitive education system, reducing the prevalence of the condition remains difficult for the foreseeable future.
