Only a minority of consumers in Japan have tried eating insects as an alternative protein source, as revealed in a survey conducted in October 2021. While close to percent of respondents aged 20 to 29 years stated to have tried foods containing insects, none of the young teens have consumed such foods. Insects available as food in Japan include mealworms, locusts, and crickets, either as fried snacks or ground into powder. Other regional products include delicacies such as candied bee larvae.
