According to a January 2026 survey, 48 percent of residents in the United States who were planning on watching the 2026 Winter Olympics intended to follow figure skating events. Meanwhile, 34 percent said they wanted to watch ice hockey events, with the 2026 Games seeing a return of NHL players featuring at the competition. The previous two Winter Olympics were affected by a dispute between the NHL and the International Olympic Committee over scheduling and costs, which led to the exclusion of NHL players.Â
