Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 - Statistics & Facts
The Winter Olympic Games 2022 are taking place in Beijing, China and are the 24th installment of the event. This year's Games, also simply referred to as Beijing 2022, comprise 109 events across 15 disciplines: Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined Speed Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, and Snowboarding. The discipline with the most medals to be won is speedskating with 23, followed by skiing with 13. A total of 2,893 athletes are competing in this year's Winter Olympics, of which 45 percent are female. Ice Hockey accounts for 547 of those athletes, followed by Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Freestyle Skiing with close to 300 athletes competing in each. The biggest gender gap in participation can be seen at Bobsleigh, with 117 male and only 46 female athletes. Conversely, Curling is the only sport with more female than male competitors.
