According to a survey conducted in 2021, the first consequence of the Spanish Conquest that comes to mind among Mexican respondents was diseases, with 29 percent of people pointing at this negative aspect. It was followed by religion, with 12 percent and slavery, with 11 percent. Furthermore, the survey also showed that 60 percent of Mexican respondents who consider themselves indigenous believe that the Spanish Conquest brought mostly negative consequences.
