According to a survey conducted in 2020, for 33 percent of the houses receiving electricity from PHCN in Nigeria, the service was available only occasionally. Most of them were located in urban Nigeria. However, around half of the surveyed households in rural Nigeria did not have PHCN electric connection. PHCN, Power Holding Company of Nigeria, governs the use of electricity in Nigeria.
