In 2024, wildfires in Spain had burned an area of 42,500 hectares. Just two years earlier, the Mediterranean country had seen its most devastating fire season in over a decade. In 2022, over 306,000 hectares were lost to wildfires. This was the largest amount recorded in the reporting period and more than three times as much as the previous year.
