According to the source, the banking health index shows the proportion of banks in the country which will not default over the next 12 months, according to the agency's estimates.
To calculate the index, Expert RA assigns to one of the rating levels according to its own scale: for the agency's clients, their ratings are used, for the rest, the rating is assessed using a specially developed methodology.
The index is calculated as 1 - ED / N, where ED is the mathematical expectation of the number of defaults on the horizon of a year from the reporting date, N is the number of banks for which the annual probability of default is estimated at the reporting date.
The Russian banking sector health index was expected to improve gradually, according to the Expert RA estimates. For the period between July 2021 and July 2022, the index was projected to reach **** percent.
