In July 2021, the Pegasus spyware scandal broke in Hungary, meaning that political figures, journalists and media owners were targeted by the spying software developed by the Israeli NSO Group. According to the survey conducted in the end of July 2020, 74 percent of Hungarians had heard about these events.
