The source assigns the scores to the countries after analyzing several factors related to two dimensions of digital competitiveness, namely the ecosystem (venture capital availability, cost to start a business, time to start a business, ease of hiring foreign labor, skillset of graduates) and the mindset (digital skills among active population, attitudes towards entrepreneurial risk, diversity of workforce, mobile-broadband subscriptions, companies embracing disruptive ideas). A higher score reveals higher levels of digital competitiveness.

As of 2021, Egypt ranked first in North Africa in the digital competitiveness index, obtaining *** points. The country was followed by Algeria and Morocco, which were given a score of ** and ** points, respectively. On the other hand, Tunisia had the lowest levels of digital competitiveness in the region as of the same year.
