The ease of doing business (EODB) score captures the gap between an economy’s performance and is a measure of best practice across the entire sample of 41 indicators for 10 topics. The ranking complements the ease of doing business score by providing information about an economy’s performance in business regulation relative to the performance of other economies as measured by Doing Business. The ranking is out of 190 countries.
The ease of doing business rankings are benchmarked from 1 May 2018 on, and based on the average of each economy’s ease of doing business scores for the 10 topics included in the aggregate ranking.
As of 2020, Canada's ease of doing business ranked 23rd worldwide, with a general score of 79.6. Some of the highest score was obtained in the ease of paying taxes. Annually, businesses require some 45 hours to pay federal income taxes, while pension plan contributions needed some 36 hours. The largest number of hours was spent on harmonized sales tax (VAT), with 50 hours.
