The data center operator Equinix saw revenue growth across all three operating regions in 2024, with total revenue exceeding 8.7 billion U.S. dollars. The Americas remained its largest market, with a seven percent increase in revenue that year.
Equinix rides the wave of digital transformation
Based in Redwood City, California, Equinix has cemented its position as a global leader in the colocation data center market. It’s among a range of digital infrastructure companies that have risen to prominence amid the surging global demand for data center capacity, driven by the adoption of data intensive technologies. The company terms its data centers ‘International Business Exchanges’ (IBXs), listing 242 such facilities across the globe.
The data center market comes under increased scrutiny
The power-hungry data center industry has come under increased pressure regarding sustainability concerns. While operators have not previously been compelled to report standardized metrics, survey reporting has long pointed to diminishing efficiency gains worldwide. Newly adopted legislation in the European Union will now require the publication of key performance indicators for their data centers in the bloc, increasing the pressure on operators to deliver efficient facilities.Â
