The survey was done in the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tunisia and Uganda
Respondents were asked: "In your opinion, which of the following countries, if any, would be the best model for the future development of our country, or is there some other country in Africa or elsewhere that should be our model?"

The U.S. was for ** percent of Africans the best model for the development of their own countries. China followed, mentioned by ** percent of the respondents. For ** percent, the former colony (the United Kingdom, France or Portugal) would be a better development model, while other ** percent cited South Africa.
