All platinum-group metals included. Elements in groups eight to ten of the fifth period (the "light platinum metals": ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium) and the sixth period (the "heavy platinum metals": osmium, iridium, and platinum) of the periodic table are classed as platinum metals or platinoides.
This statistic was assembled using several editions of the report.
The global reserves of platinum-group metals (PGMs; including ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum) amounted to 76,000 metric tons in 2025. That represented an increase of about 10,000 metric tons in comparison to the total worldwide PGM reserves in 2010.Â
South Africa is by far the country with the largest reserves of platinum-group metals, at some 63,000 metric tons.
