The position of the public in the United States in regard to the Keystone XL pipeline project changed considerably between 2013 and 2017. In , ** percent of the respondents were in favor of this project. However, by *** public opinion had changed, with the majority of surveyed U.S. adults opposing the construction. Most supporters of Keystone XL identified as Republican.
The Keystone XL pipeline project would transport oil from Canada's oil sands region through the Midwest to refineries located in Texas via a more direct route than the already existing Keystone pipeline system.
