Essential to the economy, French banks are major financial players on a global scale and have a large influence on greenhouse gas emissions through the projects and companies they support. This statistic provides a comparison of the leading six French banks, based on the amount of investment devoted to fossil fuels, and shows that French banks continue to finance these energies. It appears that Crédit Agricole was the leading French bank in terms of investments in fossil energies on the financial markets, as it held million euros in fossil energy shares in 2016 and 2017.
