According to the survey conducted by the DHS Program between December 2023 and May 2024, the percentage of children whose births were registered with the civil authorities was significantly higher in urban areas than in rural areas of Nigeria. In total, the birth registration share in Nigerian urban areas equaled to just over 59 percent, whereas in rural areas it was only about 27 percent.
