The total investment in the upstream oil and gas segment worldwide amounted to some 483 billion U.S. dollars in 2019. Due to the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this figure is estimated to decrease to some 313 billion U.S. dollars in 2020. Other energy segments, such as fossil fuels and renewables, are expected to experience a similar effect. However, the impact on renewable energy investments is expected to be smaller in comparison.
