Pessimistic, PV: USD 271/kW to USD 551/kW; onshore wind: USD 775/kW to USD 1,191/kW; offshore wind: USD 1,317/kW to USD 1,799/kW. WACC: optimistic, per 2020 values without technology risks across regions. Pessimistic, per 2020 values with technology risks across regions. The Sub-Saharan region is the region with the greatest potential to produce cost-efficient green hydrogen. According to a 2022 study, Sub-Sahara Africa could produce between 671 exajoules and 1,923 exajoules worth of green hydrogen at below 2 U.S. dollars per kilogram depending on future technological development and capacity buildup in the region. By comparison, Europe, which has a large number of green hydrogen plants could see up to 343 exajoules worth of annual production output in the optimistic scenario.
