The maximum electricity demand registered in Peru throughout the month of April, 2020 amounted to approximately 5.1 gigawatts, down from a peak of 7.1 gigawatts in the previous month. Peak electricity demand corresponds to the highest demand of electricity reported in the national distribution system during a specific period. In comparison to the same month of the previous year, the electricity demand in the South American country decreased by 25 percent.
Social isolation measures were implemented in Peru on March 15, 2020, in face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing number of cases in the country.
