The decisive factor is not the location of the vehicle, but the place of residence of the owner.
The information includes all vehicles registered or registered in Germany in accordance with the German Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) which have been allocated a registration number. Included are vehicles that have an insurance plate number as well as vehicles of the Federal Police and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). However, vehicles of the Bundeswehr as well as vehicles with red or short-term registration plates and with export registration plates are not included.
Figures for previous years were partly retrieved from respective earlier reports.
