In the financial year 2018, India witnessed a rise of 14.4 percent in the production volume of petrochemical compared to that of 2015 to reach 36.86 million metric tons.

Petrochemicals or petroleum distillates were generally derived from petroleum and natural gas by refining and were common classified as olefins and aromatics. Oil refineries produced the petrochemicals by the cracking method while chemical companies utilized cracking and catalytic reforming methods.
