While research about the coronavirus (COVID-19) is ongoing, a list of certain symptoms has emerged. The fact that some of these coincide with the symptoms of a common cold makes it difficult to determine at first whether an individual has a COVID-19 infection or not. In Germany, the symptom experienced most often in connection with the virus was a cough, followed by a runny nose and fever.

A novel virus

There have also been cases when an infected individual experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms or even none at all. The coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease and therefore poses specific risks, besides having the potential to spread with enormous speed among people. More severe symptoms, such as pneumonia, are also possible and lead to hospitalization. Several vaccines to combat COVID-19 have since been developed and approved for use. In Germany, case numbers fluctuate among age groups, increasingly affecting younger people.

Deaths

Based on surveys conducted during the outbreak, roughly half of the German population considered their health to be at risk because of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Death numbers varied by age group and gender, but more men than women have died from the disease.
