Chile is one of the Latin American countries with the largest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. The most affected area is the Metropolitan Region, where the capital city of Santiago is located. As of September 21, 2023, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus reached over 2,000,000 in the Metropolitan region, which accounted for nearly 38 percent of the total cases registered in Chile.
