In 2022, most euthanized patients in Belgium were over 70 years old. Those over 70 years accounted for ** percent of euthanized patients.

Belgium registered very few euthanasia among younger patients. For example, in 2023, *** percent of patients aged under 40 years old had been euthanized. In 2014, the Belgian Senate extended the law on euthanasia to terminally ill children, the first country in the world. According to the federal commission in charge of evaluating the practice of euthanasia in the country, one case was registered in 2023.
