Direct Strategic Investments (DSI) are direct investments held outside a private market’ portfolio. Interviews were conducted to represent the views of 141 senior investment professionals, heads of asset classes, and senior portfolio strategists at 83 sovereign wealth funds and 58 central banks.
Figures prior to 2021 were collected from previous publications by the source.

The level of assets allocated to illiquid alternatives has steadily increased from 2014 to 2025. In 2025, illiquid alternatives accounted for ** percent of total assets. Direct strategic investment (DSI) allocation has also followed a steady pattern of asset allocation as it gradually declined.
