Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer globally, while its forests make up the third largest tropical forests in the world. In 2021, about **** million hectares of palm oil plantations in the Riau province were located in forest estates. Although the practice of clearing rainforest for palm oil production has led to some backlash against products with palm oil, palm oil production in Indonesia had been steadily increasing in the last few years.
