In the third quarter of 2019, four of the leading European airlines saw their operating profits decrease compared with the same period of 2018. A general economic slowdown, higher fuel costs, and the effect of pilot strikes on IAG contributed to this decline in profitability. In contrast, operating profits of the low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air increased over the same period.
