In 2021, around **** million hectares of palm oil production in Indonesia was certified as sustainable by a Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification body. In order to be certified, plantations and mills must fulfill the requirements, such as environmental/social impact assessments, operational legality, and remediation, . They must follow best practices and monitor ongoing progress in accordance with the standard (e.g., occupational health and safety procedures, monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions) in order to keep their certification.
