Between 2008 and 2017, in both California and Florida, power outages have affected over people. Florida has witnessed far fewer blackouts than California over this period but the average number of people affected is considerably higher. In California, many power outages have become associated with wildfires. In Florida, hurricanes can cause wide-spread power disruptions every year that may affect hundreds of thousands of residents at a time.
