A 2024 survey of State Chief Information Security Officers found that the states' biggest cybersecurity challenge was the legacy infrastructure and solutions to support emerging threats. Increasing sophistication of threats ranked second, followed closely by shortage of cybersecurity staff as one of the main challenges, as per state CISOs.
