The source adds the following information: "This collection covers national tourism. Data is collected by the competent national authorities of the Member States and is compiled according to a harmonised methodology established by EU regulations before transmission to Eurostat.
Most of the time, data on domestic and outbound trips (where "outbound tourism" means residents of a country travelling in another country) is collected via sample surveys. However, in a few cases the data are compiled from border surveys. Surveys are generally conducted on a monthly or quarterly basis."

Citation formats

In Switzerland, domestic tourism was less common among travelers across all age groups than outbound and a combination of both types of travel in 2018. Some 17 percent of travelers younger than15 years have been to local trips in that year. In comparison, over 60 percent of participants between the age of 15 to 44 years traveled outside Switzerland and over 40 percent of those aged less than 15 years old took both domestic and outbound trips.
