As of November 2020, the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh had the highest share of rural phones to overall phones in the state at about ** percent. On the other hand, the southern state of Tamil Nadu had the lowest share at ** percent. The Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Act 2006 and the Universal Service Support Policy of 2002 had helped in providing telecom services in rural and remote areas of the country.
