Over a half of Russians living in cities with a high and very high atmospheric pollution index (API) resided in the Siberian federal district of the country. A quarter of the urban population were located in the Far Eastern federal district. None of the residents of the Northwestern and Volga federal districts were exposed to high levels of air pollution.
