The mine production of palladium in the United States amounted to an estimated eight metric tons in 2024. That was a 20 percent decrease compared to U.S. palladium production the previous year. Palladium is close to platinum in chemical composition and is used primarily in catalytic converters, which is a key component of internal combustion engines that power the majority of motor vehicles produced worldwide.Â
