The share of population in South America whose habitual food intake is insufficient to maintain an active and healthy life was estimated at 7.8 percent in 2020, an increase of two percentage points in comparison to the previous year. In 2005, the prevalence of undernourishment in the region amounted to 8.8 percent, the highest value of the indicated period. In the Caribbean that year, the prevalence of undernourishment is more than double of the share recorded in South America.
