Mexican mining giants

As the mining division of conglomerate Grupo México, Americas Mining Corporation is active in the exploration and extraction of gold, silver, and first and foremost, copper. It operates Buenavista del Cobre, the world’s seventh-largest copper mine in 2024. Meanwhile, Industrias Peñoles generates most of its revenue through sales of gold and silver. The Mexico City based firm is the parent company of Fresnillo plc, the leading silver producer globally, and Mexico’s third largest revenue-generating mining company.

Metals: driving the Mexican mining industry

A significant portion of Mexico’s mining production value comes from the extraction of precious metals, with gold being the largest contributor. Although ranking only third in the country in terms of production value, Mexico’s silver production stands out as the world leader when it comes to output. In addition to precious metals, copper has become another important resource for the Mexican mining industry, with copper production more than doubling since 2010.
