When it comes to supermarkets in Mexico, Walmex dominates the scene. With its omnichannel strategy and its more than Ìý²õ³Ù´Ç°ù±ð²õ all over the country, Walmex offers various services and products targeted at as many consumers as possible. Its discount brand, Bodega Aurrerá, is the most represented, but it operates hypermarkets, express supermarkets with basic items, as well as a membership-only wholesale division designed to compete with wholesale giant Costco.
Walmex competes with Grupo Chedraui, Organización Soriana, and Grupo La Comer, and while other companies operate on a regional level, the four of them make up most of the supermarket landscape. In 2023, the retail revenue of all supermarkets and convenience stores in Mexico reached over *** trillion Mexican pesos, and the sector employs over ** people.
