The 12 month rolling value of residential property investment transactions in Germany peaked in January 2022. In the period between February 2021 and January 2022, the value of transactions for properties with at least 50 residential units reached almost ** billion euros. In the following months, investments declined dramatically, reaching **** billion in October 2023. Between January 2024 and December 2024, the transaction volume reached **** billion euros, up 14.4 percent from the previous year. Investments into multifamily housing mostly consist of purchases made by housing associations, listed property companies, open-ended special funds, asset managers, and insurance companies/pension funds.
