Women's and fashion magazines in Germany look back on a long history. These magazines have traditionally covered topics such as celebrity coverage, fashion and beauty reporting (often considered product placement and advertising in disguise by critics), family, household matters, health, education, and, increasingly, politics and current events through genres other than news pieces. All of these crops up in both magazines branding themselves as "women's" as well as predominantly fashion publications, which is one of the reasons why women's and fashion magazines often appear in the same sentence. Most recently, Freizeit Revue ranked first among women's magazines in Germany based on circulation, followed by Bild der Frau and Bunte.
