Teenagers are the part of the population aged between 13 and 19 years old. This age represents a very special phase of life in which a person usually develops many of the characteristics that will shape their adult life. The teenage years are also called adolescence. Teenagers go through various changes during these years, both mentally and physically, which make this some of the most curious times in life. For centuries, this phase of transition was not really acknowledged and was only recognized scientifically during the 20th century. However, the bridge to young adulthood is experienced differently based on numerous aspects, determined by cultural and economic background. In Italy, there are around four million people between the ages of 13 and 19 years old. Also in Italy, the support received and the way adolescents go through these years varies considerably from household to household.
