Nurse burnout remains a significant concern in the United States healthcare system, with 58 percent of registered nurses reporting feelings of burnout on most days, according to a survey from 2025. While this represents a decrease from the 68 percent reported in 2023, it reveals the adverse working conditions that many nursing professionals face. The same national survey of registered nurses found that nurses are often plagued by verbal or even physical abuse from patients and colleagues, with four in ten nurses reporting frequent verbal abuse from patients and one in eight experiencing this from coworkers. Along with persistent understaffing, these factors likely contribute to the high turnover rates observed in the nursing profession.
