Mining in Chile - statistics & facts
Mining has been an important part of the Chilean identity since indigenous times, and through the course of its history, the Andean country has cemented itself as a major global player in the sector. The mining sector accounted for more than 14 percent of Chile’s GDP in 2021 and generated 200 thousand direct jobs. Chilean mining exports added up to approximately 57 billion U.S. dollars that year, or over 60 percent of the national export value. Internationally, Chile’s production ranks amongst the highest in the world for a series of metals and minerals - including molybdenum, silver, and gold – but copper is undoubtedly the most important metal in the Chilean economy.
